KHATIA BUNIATISHVILI (GEORGIA), PIANO
Khatia Buniatishvili was born in Tbilisi, Georgia, in 1987. After graduating from the Tbilisi Central Music School, she entered Tbilisi State Conservatory in 2004 (under Professor Tengiz Amiredjibi). Now she studies at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna under Professor Oleg Maisenberg. Since the age of six, she has been playing recitals as well as performing with orchestras. Since 1999, she has been performing abroad. She has played concerts in the Czech Republic, Austria, Switzerland, France, Russia, Belgium, and many other countries.
Her significant performances include: charity concerts in Austria—"SOS-kinderdorf" in 1991; a concert in France at the Théatre des Champs-Elysées in 2001; concerts at the Verbier International Festival 2003, 2004; a tour of Geneva, Zurich, Nantes and Brussels, where she performed the Chopin Piano Concerto No. 2 with the UBS Verbier Festival Chamber Orchestra in 2005; concerts in Russia—a recital at the Minor Hall of the Moscow State Conservatoire in 2006, at the Musical Olympus International Festival in the Grand Hall of the St. Petersburg Philharmonia, where she played Tchaikovsky's Piano Concerto No. 1 with the St. Petersburg Philharmonic Orchestra in 2006; concerts in Switzerland at "Les Sommets Musicaux de Gstaad" in 2006; in France at the festival "Les Nouveaux Solistes aux Serres d'Auteuil 2005" and "L'Auditorium du Louvre" in 2006.
Khatia Buniatishvili is a prize-winner of several national and international piano competitions. She was awarded the special "New Names" prize at the Horowitz International Piano Competition in 2003. She is also the winner of the concert series "Les Jeux du Piano" in Geneva 2003, the R. Rozhok and E. Gurevich National Piano Competition in Tbilisi 2004, and Second Prize along with the Special Prize for Artists at the Third Tbilisi International Piano Competition (2005).
In 2003, Khatia Buniatishvili was granted the Elizabeth Leonskaya scholarship. The same year she was invited to take part in the Francois-René Duchablé's master-classes in Verbier, as well as Claude Frank's master class in Verbier. Khatia is also a BSI Bank scholarship holder.
